Many of us have been discussing what this years “anointment” of Hilliary Clinton means for progressives. Like years past, the “bait and switch” of the Democratic primaries a similar dynamic of a “progressive’ish” candidate as “bait” for progressives to direct their energies into a primary they can’t win to ultimately get progressives to “switch” to support the neoliberal democrat of whom Wall Street already anointed (this year it’s Hillary).
Bruce Dixon describes this better than anybody in his article below:
Like in past primaries with the likes of Kucinich and all the other “sheepdogs” herding progressives ultimately for neoliberal democrats, Bernie is the latest “sheepdog”. What’s interesting is that he’s come into the Democratic party with generally more bold “progressive’ish” rhetoric than most sheepdogs might dare. However, nobody should be fooled by that.
Interviewed by George Stephanopoulos on ABC News “This Week” May 3.
STEPHANOPOULOS: So if you lose in this nomination fight, will you support the Democratic nominee?
SANDERS: Yes. I have in the past.
STEPHANOPOULOS: Not going to run as an independent?
SANDERS: No, absolutely not. I’ve been very clear about that.
