HOLD REPS ACCOUNTABLE FOR FAST TRACK

Brought to you by Harriet Heywood, Regional Organizer for MoveOn.org:

Hey Florida activists,

Here’s a copy of an email I just sent out to my national list.  Apologies for any redundancy.

I’m going to make this real simple.  Before we set off any fireworks this coming Saturday, we have time to publicly shame those reps who chose the global elite over jobs and the environment when they voted to give President Obama Fast Track for a slew of free trade disasters that we only know about because of WikiLeaks. Let’s be clear, we will not accept any House or Senate member that voted YES on Fast Track for the TPP, and we don’t intend to let them forget.  Ever.

Fast Track makes a mockery of the Constitutional separation of powers, by stripping Congress of its constitutionally mandated role to draft trade laws, along with the 2/3 advice and consent of the senate, and instead, hands it off to President Obama who is negotiating for the 500 corporate advisors, not we the people.

The Constitution is still our most hallowed document, and every member of the House and Senate takes an oath to defend it before they enter public office.  How did your representative defend the Constitution when they had the chance?

Here is the list of YEAS AND NOES in the House:  http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2015/roll362.xml

If you have a chance this week, drop in and congratulate the Free Traitors for voting against Democracy and sovereignty.

Senators got plenty of incentive for their Yeas: http://www.theguardian.com/business/2015/may/27/corporations-paid-us-senators-fast-track-tpp

And the list of the 60 senators who sold us out is here:  http://www.againstcronycapitalism.org/2015/06/so-who-voted-for-tpp-fast-track-in-the-senate-list/

We must continue to keep the campaign to stop the TPP highly visible between now and when the vote comes down.  The intention is to shame those who will be up for re-election and primaries soon.  Some members will be afraid to vote yes on the TPP for fear of losing their seats.  I am pasting in a couple examples of events scheduled for this Thursday, in hopes that you will feel inspired to hold any reps on either side of the aisle accountable:

Debbie Wasserman Schultz Vote No on TPP

Help us hold DWS accountable for her vote to lower wages, increase medicine prices and trash the environment:

Thursday, July 2, 11:30 AM

And my Move On friend, Lisa is hosting a Flip Flop award event for Rep Kathleen Rice in Garden City New York this Thursday, July 2, at Noon:

Flip-Flops for Rep. Kathleen Rice!
Rep. Rice’s Garden City Office
02 Jul, 12:00 PM
Rep. Rice did a Flip-Flop and voted Yes on Fast Track, after promising she would vote No on Fast Track Authority (Trade Promotion Authority).  She changed her vote to Yes. (And over $611,000 was “donated” to her campaign- OpenSecrets.org.)  We’ll deliver a box of flip-flops to Rep. Rice on Thursday at noon. Bring a Sharpie permanent marker with you to inscribe your name and a message (if you choose to do so). Click this link to sign up: http://pol.moveon.org/event/moveonaction/143676

Let’s show our representatives there are repercussions for voting against their constituents,

To President Obama and Michael Froman, USTR:
There is already a progressive coalition for American jobs.  It’s called the labor movement.

“When a social movement adopts the compromises of legislators, it has forgotten its role, which is to push and challenge the politicians, not to fall in meekly behind them.”
